Rules

All play will be governed by the USGA Rules of Golf. Players will be provided a "Notice to Players" rules sheet containing local rules and conditions. The NYSGA will have volunteer Rules Officials on the course to provide rulings and answer questions.

Entry Fee

The entry fee is $225 and includes lunch, golf, cart, access to the club's range, exclusive tee gifts and prizes.

Eligibility

These tournaments are open to male and female amateur golfers who (1) are members of the NYSGA either through a member club or by joining the NYSGA directly as an eClub member and (2) have an active, up-to-date USGA Handicap Index, which is defined as having five 18-hole scores posted in the previous three active posting months.

Field Size and Wait List

The field is limited to the first 48 teams to register, after which teams are added to a waitlist (and not charged) in the order that they register. The first person from the wait list will be entered into the field when a registered player withdraws.

Pace of Play Policy

In a shotgun start, the field is only as fast as its slowest group. It is essential that each player hold their group accountable for remaining in position behind the group in front of them, regardless of the group's position behind them. The NYSGA strongly encourages players to play ready golf.

Each group must remain in position behind the group in front of them for the entire round. If a group is out of position, they will be given a warning (1st Warning) and must visibly speed up their play in order to get back into position. If a team does not make a substantial effort and reduce gap between the group in front of them, the following warnings/penalties will be imposed:

1st Warning – No Penalty       2nd Warning - 1 Stroke Penalty       3rd Warning - 2 Stroke Penalty       4th Warning – DQ

The penalties outlined above will be awarded to the entire group, unless it is clearly visible that there are certain players in the group causing the delay. The NYSGA reserves the right to remove a player or group at any time due to slow play.

Divisions

During registration, players will be prompted to select the division in which they wish to compete:

  • Men’s A Division (6,400 – 6,200 Yards)
  • Men’s B Division (6,000 – 5,800 yards)
  • Mixed Division (One male (6,000 – 5,800 yards) / one female (5,400 – 5,000 yards))
  • Women’s Division (5,400 – 5,000 yards)

Note that yardage may vary based upon tournament site. See Handicap section 3-5 in the USGA Handicap Manual for information on how men and women compete from different sets of tees on an equitable basis. A minimum of 4 teams are required to create a division.

Course Handicap

A player receives 90% of their Course Handicap. Should the difference in Course Handicaps of the two players on a side exceed eight (8) strokes, an additional 10% reduction to Course Handicap will be applied to both members of the side.

A team is disqualified from a net prize/points if his net score beats the course rating by ten or more strokes and beats the next best net score in their division by four or more strokes.

Course Handicap Reduction for Multiple Winners

A player who wins first place net in two or more events in a calendar year will have their Course Handicap reduced for the remainder of the calendar year as follows: after 2nd win –10% reduction of CH, after 3rd win – 20% reduction of CH, after 4th win – 30% reduction of CH, and so forth.

The NYSGA reserves the right to adjust a player’s handicap index at any time.

Prizes

The top net and gross finishers will receive prizes in the form of pro shop gift certificates. Prizes will be awarded immediately following the conclusion of scoring, and the pro shop will remain open following the awards ceremony. Unclaimed prizes will remain at the host club pro shop. The NYSGA will not mail unclaimed prizes.

Ties
Ties are broken using the USGA recommended method of matching scorecards.

Carts, Caddies Spectatorsand

Carts are included in the entry fee and all participants are required to use a golf cart. Caddies are prohibited from NYSGA Amateur Series tournaments. Spectators will be allowed on the course during play as long as they do not interfere with play. Spectators may NOT use golf carts, no exceptions.

Dress Code

The NYSGA will strictly enforce a tournament dress code with no exceptions. Collared shirts/mock turtle necks are required, and no jeans, denim, jogging outfits, or sweat pants are permitted.

Player Conduct

Players and/or their guests must conduct themselves in a reasonable manner at all times. Any excessive display of anger, vulgar language, club throwing, alcohol abuse, illegal drug use, lack of golfing etiquette or disrespect to a fellow player or any other individual may be grounds or disqualification from any tournament. The NYSGA reserves the right to revoke a player's tournament entry, without a refund, at any time for conduct deemed inappropriate or damaging to the NYSGA Amateur Series.
